Almost every single “get healthy” and “weight loss” document you study will tell you to skip the drive through and make all of your meals yourself. This is actually very true. But sometimes the last thing you would like to do is prepare a whole supper for yourself and your family. Sometimes just about all you desperately want is to go to the drive through and get home as soon as possible. There isn’t any reason that you shouldn’t be authorized to do this and not be plagued by shame about slipping on your diet. This can be done because lots of the popular fast food destinations are trying to make their menus better now. Here’s how you’ll be able to eat healthfully when you’re at a fast food restaurant.
Aim toward the side dishes. It wasn’t too long ago that French Fries were your sole side dish choice at a restaurant. Now more or less all of the well-known fast food places have broadened their menus. Now you may get a range of salads. Chili is definitely yet another selection. You might get baked potatoes. You can get fruit. There are so many options that you can choose that do not force you to consume foods that have been deep fried. Instead of the pre-determined “meal deals” aim to create a meal from side dishes. When you choose to do this you may keep your fat content as well as your calorie counts low.
Simple sense states that the proper way to lose weight and get healthy is to ban fast food from your diet completely. Most of the time this is a good plan but if you make great choices, there’s no reason you can’t visit your drive through once in a while. At times the thing you need most is just to have another person do the cooking. There isn’t any reason to feel bad about visiting the drive through when you make healthy decisions!

- Get 1 cup sliced celery
- Provide 1 lb. cooked cubed ham (approximately)

Steps to make Potato Soup (made with ham and cheese):
- Wash and cube potatoes (1 inch thickness and add them with seasoning, carrots and ham to a covered ~12 qt. pot to boil over medium to medium-high heat in the broth until tender. (I like to cheat here and microwave the potatoes before I cut them up to help them along). Make sure you add just enough extra water to cover ingredients (~4 more cups). Stir occasionally.
- Sauté over medium heat, onions and celery in margarine or butter just until tender and add the to the pot.
- After potatoes are really fork tender (may need to taste one), melt the cheese in the microwave or a sauce pan following package directions. (I cube it and microwave 1 min. stir, 1 min. stir and 1 min. more and stir in a splash of milk to loosen it up if necessary). Add to pot and stir.
- Add instant potatoes to pot and stir until dissolved.
- Add sour cream to pot and stir.
- Add salt and pepper to taste and let the soup thicken by simmering over low heat, probably ~10 mins depending on the amount of extra water added.
- Sit back and relax, you’re done, enjoy with/without real bacon bits and/or crackers (I like Ritz).
